Who We Are

Chapman Forest FoundationFriends of Chapman Forest

The Chapman Forest Foundation, originally named Friends of Mount Aventine, is the non-profit organization that initiated and led the campaign to preserve Chapman Forest. The role of the Chapman Forest Foundation is to realize our vision of Chapman Forest as unspoiled natural land in an authentic historic setting. We work closely with the State of Maryland which owns the property and welcome new volunteers.

Mission

  • Protect the natural and cultural resources of Chapman Forest
  • Protect its forests from fragmentation
  • Maintain its value for historical and archaeological research and interpretation
  • Protext its authentic setting
  • Provide public access, education, and research opportunities consistent with that protection

Friends of Chapman Forest is a group of volunteers which works in cooperation with and for the State of Maryland at Chapman State Park. The work of the Friends is directed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The main focus of Friends is to help the State manage the Chapman Forest site. When the state decides that a particular task or project needs to be done at Chapman Forest, the Friends of Chapman Forest assist with completing that task or project. More information is available on the Friends of Chapman Forest.
